What is turmeric powder?

Turmeric powder is the dried and ground powder of the turmeric root. This root is bright yellow in color and looks similar to a smaller version of a piece of ginger. Turmeric is what makes a lot of Indian dishes yellow in color.

Why consume turmeric everyday?

Turmeric is known to be great for our health. “Turmeric may be the most effective nutritional supplement in existence. Many high-quality studies show that it has major benefits for your body and brain,” according to Healthline.com.

“A small controlled clinical trial in which SLE patients were supplemented with 500 mg turmeric spice 3 times daily found significant decreases in proteinuria, systolic blood pressure, and hematuria in the active treatment group,[13]” according to PCRM’s Nutrition Guide for Clinicians.

There are many ways to get turmeric into your diet, such as:

  2. Turmeric baked goods
  3. Many Indian dishes include turmeric as an ingredient
  4. Smoothies
  5. Beverages
  6. Supplements

For many people, drinking turmeric is an easy way to get consume turmeric without having to cook a whole meal with it or pay for expensive supplements. Hot tea is a great way to consume turmeric, and its very easy to prepare using the recipe below.

Turmeric latte variations

This recipe is for a Turmeric Chai Latte. This recipe can also be prepared as a simple Turmeric Latte by omitting the chai tea, or as a Vegan Golden Milk Latte by adding ginger powder.

Easy homemade turmeric chai latte recipe

This quick and easy vegan turmeric chai latte can be prepared in less than five minutes and taste delicious.

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 8 ounces boiling water
  • 1 chai tea bag or serving of chai tea powder
  • 4 ounces hot organic soy beverage or other creamy beverage
  • Sweetener, if desired
  • Dash cinnamon, sprinkled on top, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional

Directions

  1. Combine turmeric powder, boiling water, chai tea, soy beverage, sweetener in a mug and stir well.
  2. Let tea bag (if using) steep according to package directions.
  3. Remove tea bag and enjoy latte, or let cool and store in an airtight beverage container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Serve cold over ice or reheat before enjoying.

You can also add 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger powder to make this a Golden Milk Turmeric Latte.
