Wondering what the benefits of oil-free cooking are? If you’re like most people, when you hear someone say “oil is bad for you” you wonder why they are saying that. For many years we have been told that oil is healthy for our skin and bodies. If you followed the Mediterranean Diet at any point, you were told that olive oil is the reason why people in the Mediterranean are so healthy and live for so long.
Unfortunately, healthy oil is a myth. Many physicians are now realizing that the people who were studied for the Mediterranean diet were most likely healthy despite their olive oil consumption because they consumed a variety of whole, plant-based foods.
Why oil-free?
Oil is the fat that is pressed out of plant foods, such as olives, coconuts, and other nuts and seeds. Oil is not a whole food. Did you know that there are about 44 olives used to make one tablespoon of olive oil? Yep. Can you imagine eating 44 olives in one meal? Probably not because you would most likely feel sick if you ate that many. In addition, you wouldn’t be getting all of the other nutrients that are in whole olives. Enjoying whole foods in their whole state is optimal for health, not pressing out the fat and eating the fat separately.
Oil limits endothelial function
In addition to this, oil has been found to harm our bodies on the inside. Oil limits endothelial layer function. The inner lining of cells has several critical functions and oil clogs these pathways, which eventually after years of buildup, can lead to serious health conditions.
Oil-free cooking
This is why I am such a proponent of oil-free cooking. Not only does food taste better when its not slathered in oil, it’s also easier to digest and makes us overall more healthy when we don’t consume it. So, I encourage you to throw out the bottles of oil that are in your pantry and go oil-free in 2020 and beyond.
Here’s a roundup list of the benefits I’ve noticed from oil-free cooking.
Here’s 4 benefits of oil-free cooking
Here are some benefits I’ve noticed since switching to oil-free cooking:
MORE FLAVORFUL FOOD
I’ve noticed food tastes better when it’s not slathered in oil, especially vegetables and whole grains. My salads taste better because they aren’t coated in oil. Another bonus is that I don’t have oil dripping down my face when I’m eating.
FEELING BETTER AFTER EATING
When I don’t add oil to my food my stomach doesn’t feel bad after eating. Now, when I eat a meal that contains a lot of oil, I notice that my belly feels full of oil which isn’t very pleasant.
LESS SKIN BREAKOUTS
When I don’t add oil to my food, I notice my skin has less breakouts than when I’m eating food that has been cooked in oil. When we eat oil-free foods we overall are consuming less fats which is most likely why I have less acne when I eat oil-free.
MORE ENERGY AFTER EATING
Because I’m not eating a bunch of oil I’ve noticed that I feel more energetic after eating, rather than slow and sluggish.
